Dreams of Murder May Signal Real-Life Aggression. On one hand, Waking Life is a profoundly original, throught-provoking, well-produced, visually stunning movie. He climbs out of bed, splashes water on his face, walks outside and finds himself dreaming again. Waking Life is a very dangerous film to produce. Released in 2001, Linklater's first animated film (he would make a second, the Philip K. Dick adaptation A Scanner Darkly, in 2006) not only further develops the neglected branch of animation known as rotoscoping, which involves drawing over live-action footage, but puts it to work for the cause of the philosophical film. But the film isn't one of those surrealist fantasies with pinwheels coming out of the hero's eyes or people being sucked down into the vortex. The character in the scene had to be redrawn by someone else. The plot follows a young man walking through a lucid dream where he observes and enters into dialogue about lofty philosophical concepts and theories. Waking Life is an animated feature film released in 2002, directed by Richard Linklater, the guy who brought us Dazed and Confused and Slacker.. My brother is particularly bad for this. However, on more than one occasion, while watching it, someone would walk by, become fascinated with whatever scene was playing, and then become frustrated with how the movie shifted to another (seemingly unrelated) scene.

The subway scene took Wiley Wiggins 2 months to animate. Looking for the newscast? The film itself was initially shot on digital video, and then drawn over by a team of animators. It is hard to say how much of Richard Linklater's "Waking Life" (2001) is a dream. While trying to figure out a way to wake up, he runs into many people on his way; some of which offer one sentence asides on life, others delving deeply into existential questions and life's mysteries. Shares ... "in waking life, you are a little more aggressive," he said. This movie is a must-see for anyone interested in dreams, consciousness and how our visionary states play out in modern life.
